If you like getting out in nature, then Maleny is perfect for you

The expression, “Picture postcard perfect” describes Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, perfectly. In fact, you will find postcards of Maleny taken from the hills at the back of the town that make you wonder if such a beautiful place actually exists. Well, it does. Maleny is in the Blackall Range overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains. At an elevation of about 1500 feet (450 meters) above sea level, it is a subtropical haven in tropical Queensland.

Not surprisingly, Maleny’s main industry is tourism. Situated just 56 miles (90km) north of Brisbane and 46 miles (75km) from Noosa Heads in the Sunshine Coast, Maleny is easy to get to. When you are there, you’ll absolutely love it. Over the years, Maleny has gone through many incarnations. During its early history, it was a logging town. Then it turned into a dairy town. The logging activity ended long ago, but a lot of dairy farms remain. However, Maleny started being discovered by an eclectic group of people who simply wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and back to nature.

Back to nature is where you will be whenever you visit Maleny. While there are some fantastic places to explore within the town itself, surrounded by nature as you are, you will want venture out and explore. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to do that in and around Maleny.

Maleny is a perfect spot to base yourself if you would like to get out and explore the countryside on foot or on a mountain bike. One great place to go to just near Maleny is Kondalilla National Park. The word “Kondalilla” is an aboriginal word that more or less translates as “rushing waters.” That ought to give you a clue as to what to expect to find in the Park. Kondalilla Falls plunges 300 vertical feet (90 meters) directly down into the valley below. One of the local’s favorite things to do on a hot summer’s day is go to the rock pool on the head of the falls and cool off.

The Blackall Range is sprinkled with towns like Maleny. Kenilworth, for instance, is a charming village that was voted Queensland’s Friendliest Village in 2000. Kenilworth’s neighbors like Maleny and Montville deserve to share that crown. They’re all relaxing, friendly towns whose local populations seem to be made up of creative people. Each town has interesting arts and crafts shops, fresh farm grown organic produce  and great cafes and restaurants that feature healthy and delicious meals.

Your Maleny accommodation will be an example of local craftsmanship. You will not be staying in a bland motel by the side of a noisy highway when you’re in Maleny. In fact, you could possibly find yourself staying in a magnificently appointed treehouse overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains or in a sumptuous cabin on a hill with your own private spa to enjoy. In addition to the locals’ artistic eye, they are passionate environmentalists. Your accommodation will be perfectly maintained but will blend into the environment, making you feel completely at peace with the world, just as the locals seem to be.

“Blue Christmas” is a Christmas song written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson. The heart-broken tale of unrequited love during the holidays had long been considered a Christmas staple of country music, having been recorded by Ernest Tubb in 1948. In 1957, Elvis Presley effectively made “Blue Christmas” a steadfast rock-and-roll holiday classic by recording it in his signature style. The song has since been recorded by a host of rock and country artists alike, as well as those of other genres. Mel Blanc’s Porky Pig version is my personal fave. The Bar Stoolz of Huron, Ohio will be performing their version along with other songs of a more eclectic nature on the Saturday evening after Christmas “08″ at the legendary Sand Bar.

THE ASCOT ROYALS

BALCONYTV TORONTO IS BROUGHT TO YOU IN ASSOCIATION WITH INDIE WEEK AND THE UNDERGROUND GARAGE PRESENTED BY SARAH RICHES www.indieweek.com http Maybe it’s the shared genes, or maybe it’s the sibling rivalry, but whatever the reason, bands featuring brothers have become a real staple in the music industry. From AC/DC to Kings of Leon, there’s just something special about the results achieved from fusing brothers with music. The Ascot Royals are the latest addition to this time-honored tradition. When British export Ben Chauveau (keyboards) met Joey Vinegar (guitar) in Hamilton, ON in 2008, they had no idea they’d soon be forming a band, well, of brothers. Recruiting brother Jimmy Chauveau (vocals), university friend Jesse Gilroy (bass) and, the newest member of the family, Sam Stark (drums), The Ascot Royals were born. The band headed into the studio for the first time in 2009 to capture their eclectic nature and the spirit of their energetic live shows on a debut EP. The self-titled release dropped in September of that year and was a hit with fans and critics alike. Now, they’ve done it again. Working with Lorne Hounsell (Bedouin Soundclash, k-os, Olivia Newton John), The Ascot Royals recently went back into the studio to record their follow-up offering. The seven-track EP, which will be released in February 2011, will showcase the band’s signature fusion sound, which draws from an array of genres that span from rock to funk. From success in studio to concert triumphs, The

NATURE MORTE. The Arches, Glasgow (2009)

DEREVO in co-operation with The Arches (Scotland), Conflux (Scotland), AKHE (Russia) For a long time DEREVO has amazed audiences by mastering quite different dance styles starting from Japanese Butoh to the cold modern dance, by mixing clownery and Commedia dell’Arte with folk dance and live music and vocals on stage. All that has been done by just five members of the group and has resulted from their huge amount of daily work. And now DEREVO decides to present the maximum possible number of arts and styles united in one project Nature Morte in Glasgow and Dresden just to prove that nothing can be too eclectic as long as it’s of the highest quality. So the public can see for example some Butoh dance along with the sounds produced from an old metal sink or maybe some clownery accompanied by the sounds of the shooting from Prague 68′ and so on. Though we don’t want to shock the audience, we’d rather tell them that there’s everything in their own souls and memories already. People are free to decide by themselves which particular note from this crazy action will touch their hearts and will last forever… =================== Camera & cut: Andrey Gladkih

This short film attempts to capture the varied and eclectic nature of Fox Pass, a Boston-based band that has been around since the early nineteen-seventies. The group has been highly influential on many bands that have come out of New England for nearly four decades. With their tight harmonies, high-caliber musicianship, sharp and witty lyrics, and powerful delivery, Fox Pass has withstood the test of time. As evident in this short promo, they sound better than ever and have matured quite well while still retaining a youthful and timeless vibe and attitude in their presentation. “Child’s Play” indeed, as they simply don’t make them like this anymore, boys and girls. visit: foxpassmusic.com

The General Epistle of James 1/2

The Epistle of James, usually referred to simply as James, is a book in the New Testament. The author identifies himself as “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ”. Composition The epistle may not be a true piece of correspondence between specific parties, but rather an example of wisdom literature formulated as a letter for circulation. The work is considered New Testament wisdom literature because, “like Proverbs and Sirach, it consists largely of moral exhortations and precepts of a traditional and eclectic nature.” Similarly, the Catholic Encyclopedia says, “the subjects treated of in the Epistle are many and various; moreover, St. James not infrequently, whilst elucidating a certain point, passes abruptly to another, and presently resumes once more his former argument.” Content Salutation (1:1) Faith and Wisdom (1:2-8) Poverty and Riches (1:9-11) Trial and Temptation (1:12-18) Hearing and Doing the Word (1:19-27) Warning against Partiality (2:1-13) Faith and Works (2:14-26) The Tongue (3:1-12) The Wisdom from Above (3:13-18) Friendship with the World (4:1-10) Judging a Brother (4:11-12) Warning against Boasting (4:13-17) Warning to the Rich (5:1-6) Patience and Prayer (5:7-20) Canonicity The Epistle was definitely quoted by Origen of Alexandria, and possibly a bit earlier by Irenaeus of Lyons as well as Clement of Alexandria in a lost work according to Eusebius. The Epistle of James was included among the 27 New Testament books first listed by
